Crystal clear topcoat will stay clear and will NOT yellow. Provides excellent protection from dirt, grease, oil, bird droppings and other outdoor plane stains. Washes easy with soap and water. Must be used with Activator (part# L4025-HT) in a 4 to 1 mix ratio. Typical aircraft requires 2.5 gallons depending on application method. Painting clean up can be done with Lacquer Thinner, Acetone or any urethane thinning product.
Steps to apply:
1. Thoroughly wash all fabric with Spic N Span or Mr. Clean. The ammonia in these soaps helps wash away the Silicon from the fabric.
Wash twice and be sure to rinse ALL the soap out of the fabric and air-frame structure. Let air dry.
2. Tape off any areas not to be painted. This is a time consuming process unless you don’t care about finish appearance.
3. We use a cheap Harbor Freight top loading HVLP paint gun set to fine mist. Mix the first coat to dry slowly. This allows the paint to be absorbed by the fabric. Do not try to re-coat what looks to be “dry”. Typically this coats looks like crap after it dries. Not to worry.
4. After 24 hrs drying time use a Scotch Brite Pad and rub the entire painted surface. Air blow then tak rag to be sure all dust is gone.
5. Mix 2nd coat per label. 2nd coat will sit on top and provide a nice clear finish.
We have seen customers apply this coating with a roller with decent results. Use same method.
No matter what, this process is a PITA but worth it!! You are painting FABRIC not a metal car.
